As usual summer is flying by and although there is much uncertainty about what fall will bring, one thing is for sure - taking care of yourself and your skin should always be a constant.

This month we're focusing on healthy skin. Read on for tips on how to keep up with a healthy skincare routine and other news.

Skincare Concerns
One of the concerns we hear most often from our patients is the lack of elasticity or suppleness in their skin. What this translates to is concern about fine lines, wrinkles, larger more noticeable pores and a general lack of glow or vibrancy of the skin.

Three factors play a part in these concerns: chronological aging, environmental and sun damage, and for women, loss of estrogen after menopause.

One thing that we can control is exposure to sun. Sunlight ages the skin, causing things like discoloration, thinning of the surface, loss of collagen and elastin, wrinkles, dullness, and roughness. Our advice - protect your skin in the morning and repair at night!

The number one anti-aging product you can use is a good sunscreen!
Studies have shown that a good sunscreen can slow the progression of skin damage because the skin is not constantly under stress from dealing with sun. And it's never too late to start!

We recommend using a mineral-based sunscreen (zinc oxide and/or titanium dioxide) with a SPF of at least 30 for daily wear and SPF 50 for “vacation” type sun exposure. Use it every single day! Put your sunscreen on over your moisturizer or get a moisturizer that contains an effective sunscreen. ESCC has a nice, reasonably-priced moisturizing sunscreen that is mineral based for daily wear. For those who have skin on the oily to normal side we have both tinted and untinted oil-free sunscreens by SkinMedica that go on very nicely and don’t feel heavy.
